The SoP Revision Service is closed for JET Programme 2023 applicants

I want to thank everyone who utilized the service. I wish I could have kept it open for longer and accepted more SoPs to review, but it’s very time-consuming. However, this year might have the first Interview Coaching Service!

SoP Revision Services are only “unavailable” if you cannot complete the Form.
(i.e. if the form is not accepting responses, my quota is filled till the next batch. Check back regularly!)

I have been asked by many aspiring JETs and private teachers to look over their statements and provide critical feedback. If you did not land an interview, you can use the service for invaluable feedback on what went wrong on your SOP.

Please read through all ToS and FAQs before completing the following form:
Statement of Purpose Revision Service Form

Response time is usually within 24 hours of receiving the completed Google Form.

Over 98% of users take advantage of a second paper revision because of their satisfaction with the first revision.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • Three Types of Revisions
    • Revising any paper takes time. The first major revision usually takes 2hrs/more. I want to ensure I can provide as much detail as possible, so you (the author) can improve your SoP and land an interview.
    • The second major revision also takes time, 1-2hrs. A second major revision is usually enough for a paper before final submission, but some papers still require additional work
    • The third minor revision is for those who need a quick glance over their SoP before submission. Minor revisions could be checking grammar and coherency. This service is great for those just about ready to submit their paper but who would like a second pair of eyes.
    • Fourth revisions are acceptable as well.
  • Acceptable file types
    • Any file format should be OK, but I prefer Microsoft Word or Google Docs. If there is a problem, we will think of a solution together.
  • Are you a former JET?
    • Yes, I am. I was an ALT in Kumamoto for four years. I also did private teaching in Osaka before JET. Moreover, I worked in cram schools (eikaiwas) for two years.
  • What are your qualifications?
    • Lots of writing practice from prior SoP submissions, research, JET Alumni activities, and from graduate work. In 2019, I completed my master’s thesis in International Cooperation Policy and spent significant time researching Japanese mascots used in raising tourism awareness outside Japan. Additionally, I have spent hundreds of hours designing and submitting graduate research proposals.
  • Will the prices change?
    • Prices are subject to change based on demand and service fees. For example, PayPal takes a cut of 1% and other fees based on the country of remittance.
  • How many paper revisions have been completed?
    • Over 40+, thus far! Over 98% of users have taken a second revision.

2021-2022 JET Program Testimonials

I love any testimonials and would be glad to share them, unedited. I will send the survey after the completion of the service.

First-Year User Stats:

  • 40+ revisions completed
  • 70% of users took a second revision
  • 30% of users carried out a third and fourth revision.
  • 2-3 hours editing individual papers and providing detailed feedback.
  • 5 applicants reported that they scored interviews or never had one before!
  • 2 applicants reported they were shortlisted and now are JETs!
  • Applicants, who could not score an interview from prior applications, said they were astounded that they finally landed an interview!

I had some outstanding success with applicants. One of my clients was gracious for the help I offered them with their writing, and they were blown away by getting their first interview (it wasn’t their first time applying to JET). Landing an interview was really touching for me as some applicants are not strong at writing or lack direction and feedback. Giving back to determined applicants means that they will give back to the Japanese and JET community, I hope, and they will continue international relations.
